Part 3 of Well-Being: Fit Body
Jul 19, 2022
Fit Body covers Pillars 7-9:
Pillar 7 – Vigorous Exercise
Your brain needs strenuous exercise. A regular vigorous physical fitness routine promotes brain health and helps fight disease. Many researchers consider exercise the most important ingredient for living a long and healthy life, triggering biological effects that benefit the brain and body.
See NIH/National Library of Medicine for resources related to Benefits of Exercise: NIH - Benefits of Exercise.
Pillar 8 – Strict Nutrition
Your brain needs strict nutrition. Not every single day, but for sure most of the time. There is a lot of confusion and contradiction about the optimal diet. Doctors are generally not trained in nutrition science. There is however plenty of evidence that what we put in our bodies affects our brain and body health. Most of us have a pretty good idea of what healthy eating means.

Pillar 9 - Restorative Rest
Your brain needs the right quantity and quality of sleep. Poor sleep quality, or insufficient sleep, increases the risk of many health problems. Chronic sleep deficiency raises risks of dementia, depression, mood swings, cognitive issues, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other problems. Some studies suggest that two-thirds of individuals are chronically sleep deprived. Seven to eight hours of sleep nightly is considered a healthy range for most people.
